Much appreciated :)
oh cool you study biology too. any particular areas?
Mmhm I should update this, I'm doing my PhD now, specilaizing in imaging and plant-physiology :)
well you are still studying biology! congrats btw, impressive! i think plants are an underrated aspect of medical research. it's cool how well they work as experimental vessels to develop/understand human biologics. I did a little undergrad study on the yang-cycle and development of ethylene amongst various fruits ;)
i get imaging with your exceptional art background & skills, but how did you get into plant-physiology? any advice for someone who's about to graduate with a BA in biology but isn't exactly sure what specific area they should delve into afterwards?
Indeed, last week the founder of GREENOVATION held a speech at our institute, they modified moss to produce highly pure antibodies (for cancer-treatment etc.), better than any other solutions out there. So plant-medic-tech is a emerging field. (http://www.greenovation.com/ , they have very fascinating bio-reactors at their facilities)
Well you need something biological to research with the methods you devise ;) Also the plant-physiologists at my university are very open to innovative usage of technology and developing new methods.
If you want a job you should stick with some molecular method focused. That's most wanted at the moment, especially for cancer-research etc.. Molecular methods can be applied in a lot of fields. Ecology/Geoengineering is also emerging since earth will become less hospitable to human life in many regions in the next 50 years. And people who know their way around eco and geo-models and their methods are sought after more and more.
I focused on imaging because I think it is fun and very powerful with the cheaper digital technology that emerged within the last 10 years. But the job-chances are definetly better in the way of molecular biology.
hey thanks a lot for the advices! and cool link too. just need to learn german lol
good point about ecology. when i first started studying natural sciences I was more interested in cells, diseases, and medical related areas but as I've got further in my degree my interests have turned more towards ecology, horticulture, wildlife and the like.
